The Province is home to more than 127 million residents, comparable to the population of many developed countries.In 2025, trade between Guangdong and ASEAN reached approximately RMB 1.53 trillion (equivalent to USD 211 billion), representing a 5.8% year-on-year increase and accounting for 21.2% of the Province's total international trade growth.Guangdong possesses a globally competitive manufacturing and services ecosystem, with strengths in high technology, electronics, artificial intelligence (AI), advanced manufacturing, logistics, international trade, and financial services. In particular, Shenzhen, often referred to as the "Silicon Valley of China," is home to many of the world's leading technology companies, including Huawei, Tencent, BYD, and DJI.As part of its next stage of development, Guangdong is accelerating comprehensive digital transformation, while promoting the semiconductor industry, clean energy, the green economy, and smart city development to further enhance its global competitiveness and international standing.

Over the years, cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Guangdong Province has produced significant achievements across trade, investment, business connectivity, and cultural exchanges. Regular high-level visits have strengthened mutual understanding and trust, while business forums, investment promotion conferences, and international trade fairs have created valuable opportunities for enterprises from both sides to expand commercial partnerships.As China continues to be Viet Nam's largest trading partner, Guangdong serves as a strategic gateway connecting bilateral trade, investment flows, and regional supply chains. The Province is also China's leading hub for electric vehicle manufacturing, artificial intelligence applications in industrial production, digital infrastructure, and green economic development.Guangdong is currently home to a number of internationally significant projects, including the USD 10 billion ExxonMobil Huizhou Petrochemical Complex, the BASF Zhanjiang Verbund Project, as well as an extensive network of deep-water ports and modern logistics centres within the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area).
Looking toward the future, particularly as Ho Chi Minh City expands its development space and advances its vision of becoming an International Financial Centre, an innovation-driven city, and a regional innovation hub, the City seeks to further strengthen cooperation and attract investment from Guangdong Province in the following priority areas:
High-Tech Industries and Semiconductors: Promote cooperation in research and development, technology transfer, innovation ecosystem development, and investment by Guangdong enterprises in semiconductor manufacturing, electronics, artificial intelligence (AI), and smart manufacturing.
Logistics and Port Infrastructure: Strengthen cooperation in developing modern logistics systems, international distribution centres, smart ports, and supply chain connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.
Finance and Trade in Services: Encourage financial institutions, investment funds, and major commercial corporations from Guangdong to participate in the development of the Ho Chi Minh City International Financial Centre, while expanding cooperation in financial technology (FinTech) and cross-border e-commerce.
Clean Energy, Healthcare, and High-Quality Education: Promote investment in renewable energy, high-tech healthcare facilities, scientific research centres, human resource development, and partnerships between universities and research institutions in both localities.
Smart Cities and the Green Economy: Advance cooperation in digital urban governance, the application of artificial intelligence in city management, green infrastructure development, carbon emissions reduction, and the promotion of a sustainable circular economy.
